From Torres García to Vieira da Silva 1929-1949 |
Is the first time that the works of Vieira da Silva and Torres Garcia have been displayed together. |
The “Intuition and structure” exhibition, held in Lisbon is the first
time that the works of Vieira da Silva and Torres Garcia have been
displayed together.
In the framework of the commemorations of the centenary of the
birth of Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, the Berardo Museum
presents an exhibition which brings together the works by this
distinguished Portuguese painter with those of the Uruguayan
artist, Joaquín Torres García.
Torres García - the leading name in Uruguayan modern art, was one
of the pioneers of constructivism in Latin America. Vieira da Silva studied at Lisbon Fine
Arts School, and then moved to Paris, where she was influenced by various artistic
movements without adopting any particular movements herself. This exhibition -
organized in collaboration with the Valencian Modern Art Institute - focuses on a 20-
year period of both artists (1929-1949) and the close relationship they established over
this period.
