The Parque das Nações is the current designation of the former Zone of Intervention of the Expo, which includes the location where it was held the World Exhibition of 1998 and all areas under the administration of ParqueExpo, SA This area has become, however, a center of cultural activities and a new neighborhood of the city, with nearly 15,000 inhabitants (it is expected that the total population is 25,000, in a few years), with various cultural institutions and sports themselves.
Its contemporary architecture, the space of coexistence and the whole project of urbanization and urban upgrading have brought new momentum to the eastern city of Lisbon which in 1990 was still an industrial area.
Among them, as examples of architecture in the Park of Nations, the vaults of the platforms of the Gare East, Santiago Calatrava, imposing its architectural line, the Pavilion of Portugal, the Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza Vieira, which is an entry imposing words of precast concrete efforts, based on the idea of a sheet of paper Hostel in two bricks, opening the space to the city to host the various events that hosts a space on this scale.
The park has a pavilion of Knowledge, a modern museum of science and technology with several interactive exhibits, a cable car takes visitors from one point to another area of the former exposure. Note also the flagship Vasco da Gama Tower, the tallest building in Lisbon.
