In Algés you can visit an exhibition of works by Paula Rego - one of
Portugal’s most important contemporary artists.
This exhibition - on display in the Palácio Anjos until January 18,
2009 - shows a set of works by the painter Paula Rego, from the
Manuel de Brito collection. The works include paintings from the
late 1950s to the present day - a highly representative sample of
the painter’s oeuvre, in terms of the number and importance of the
paintings on display.
The paintings are presented in chronological order, making it
possible to understand the evolution of the painter’s work in terms of the techniques,
supporting materials and topics addressed. Seven hitherto unseen works are also
presented - five of which were specifically created by Paula Rego for this exhibition as
part of the “feminine genital mutilation” series”.
