A City to the future |
Ponta Delgada was raised to city by charter, in April 2, 1546, in the reign of King John III, and the second city being set up throughout the archipelago of the Azores.
Located on the largest island in the archipelago (the island of San Miguel), the city initially was a village of fishermen, but since early grows bypassing the former Vila Franca do Campo, who was in four hundred, the biggest and most important city Azores, but sadly undermined by a major cataclysm in 1522.
